RGA Design is a leading utility design, and consulting firm. We help our clients to streamline their infrastructure design and implementation, to save them time, money and headaches. We design and implement the construction of electric, gas, fiber, telecommunications, and cable TV for our clients. We are qualified to perform in-house gas and electric design, thereby eliminating, or substantially reducing, lengthy lead times. We have deep knowledge of utility standards and tariffs, which allows us to develop the most cost-effective solutions.

We have a diverse staff that is experienced, enthusiastic, engaged and involved. We’re true team players, and good communicators, both within the office and with our clients and partners. We put our clients, not the utility companies, in control of the projects. Our project managers have a sense of ownership towards their projects; we are very hands-on with our clients. We are a small, fast paced and growing company.

We work directly with private developers, cities and counties, utility districts, contractors, and civil engineering firms. RGA provides design and consulting services for: commercial projects, industrial projects, single family homes, subdivisions, mixed-use projects, aerial to underground conversions, lighting projects and more.

Some of our noteworthy projects are: Oakland MacArthur BART, Graton Casino, the new LinkedIn campus and the new Netflix campus.

Summary:

The Electrical Engineer will represent our clientele in designing, and/or evaluating the electric lighting infrastructure to serve any project site.  The Electrical Engineer makes decisions regarding electric design suitability using knowledge of specified project intent as well as utility processes.  You will be responsible for designing projects of various size, preparing reports and specifications, and signing off upon completion with a PE Electrical Stamp.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design electrical systems for the street light and/or site lighting for various project types including mixed-use projects, commercial, and industrial;
  • Perform lighting calculations and develop appropriate layouts;
  • Visit job sites for documentation, inspections, and progress evaluations;
  • Provide voltage drop calculations;
  • Provide wire size calculations for projects including street and sight lighting;
  • Provide panel schedules;
  • Provide single line diagrams for meter pedestal;
  • Ability to understand and provide Title 24 calculations;

 

  • Responsible for the preparation and completion of electrical engineering designs that are responsive to the needs and requirements of the project;
  • Collaborate with other team members on project tasks and deliverables;

 

  • Assist with handling escalated electrical design issues;
  • Review, approve, or modify electrical designs as needed;
  • Train and mentor project managers as well as supporting staff;
  • Maintain client satisfaction and project efficiency;
  • Regularly stand for prolonged periods of time over the course of an 8-hour day;
  • Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine and a printer);
  • Regularly ascends/descends stairs or takes elevator;
  • Frequently communicates to exchange information via written, auditory, and oral communication; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Measurements of Success:

  • Maintain an exceptional record of punctuality and attendance;
  • City submittals and PG&E drawing sets are accurately submitted without any errors and on time;
  • Cooperation, collaboration, and teamwork behaviors are routinely practiced;
  • Project Managers and Managing Partners are kept informed of progress and potential obstacles;
  • Project tasks are managed efficiently and effectively; and
  • Establish positive relationships with the client and representatives from various disciplines involved in the project team.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a current Professional Engineering License (PE) with a solid, and stable work track record;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a consulting firm;
  • Must have thorough understanding of construction document, including both drawings and technical specifications;
  • Possess a solid background in low and medium voltage power distribution systems;
  • Must be a self-starter, proactive, flexible, and work independently with conflicting deadlines;
  • Ability to plan, set priorities and multi-task;
  • Client focused;
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment;
  • The ideal candidate should have street lighting experience;
  • Latest version of AutoCAD experience required;
  • Proficient use of MS Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Problem solving and critical-thinking skills in designing plans;
  • Excellent communication skills– Written and Verbal;
  • Attention to detail and precision;
  • Utility Business understanding desired; and
  • Reading and understanding maps, plat maps, construction drawings and gas service records for existing condition interpolation

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Must have a current Professional Engineering License (PE) with a solid, and stable work track record;

 

  • At least 6+ years of experience as a designer for a mechanical engineering, architectural design firm, civil design firm or equivalent firm; and
  • Previous construction drafting experience combined with the ability to read and understand architectural plans or civil design

Language, Mathematical, and Reasoning Skills:

  • Possesses excellent basic mathematical skills;
  • Ability to speak effectively and communicate with clients and co-workers;
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule format; and
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where broad standardization exists.
